Bitter Ex Smoker
Posted: September 23, 2002 Filed under: Personal Updates | Tags: pretty girls make graves, smokers, smoking, tobacco companies Leave a comment »i just got back from the pretty girls make graves show at graceland here in seattle. one of the things i really hate about this club (besides a lot of the patrons and their star trek hair) is the SMOKING. i know i risk the possibility of offending some of you. and well, that’s ok. your smoking offends me. you’re going to give me cancer! i smoked for a long time. i had to quit a least a half dozen times before it really took. so, i’m not without sympathy for how addictive it is. but come on people! 1200+ people die a day from smoking! there are over 4,000 chemicals in cigarettes. and the tobacco companies are EVIL. seriously. i don’t understand kids who won’t buy records that are on major labels, but they happily drink and smoke. the liquor and tobacco industry is killing people! yes, i am a staunch supporter of independent music, film and art. but i’m far more concerned about people smoking and drinking than i am people listening to crappy music. i’m also all for personal freedom, individuality and expression. but when you are smoking next to me in a crowded non-ventilated night club blowing your smoke right in my face we are going to have a problem. smoking is not cool. it’s weak and it’s destructive to you and those around you. i applaud the state of california (a rarity, i assure you) for banning smoking in public places. look, i don’t take a dump in your mouth. go outside and smoke. my clothes stink now. thanks a lot. ok, that’s enough of that. pretty girls make graves put on an excellent shows. you should catch them live if you get the chance.
The All Music Guide Loves Me
Posted: September 4, 2002 Filed under: Personal Updates Leave a comment »if you go to the allmusic.com site and check out the review of my last bands last CD “figureheads on the forefront of pop culture” you can see that gem of a quote “sometimes retirement is a good thing”. the reviewer of the record also went on to say that it sounded like the songs on the album were written in one afternoon. nothing like pouring your heart and soul into your art only to have some asshole idiot tear you to bits in a couple of sentences. whatever. it’s just an opinion i guess. good for that guy. my music buying frenzy has continued. i picked up new discs from aimee mann, wilco and coldplay this week. all excellent. this year is turning out to be a real great year for records. oh, i also picked up the new no knife. i love no knife. this new record has some great songs, mostly great songs…with a few slow ones that i wasn’t as stoked on. overall a good purchase. things are rolling along with my solo stuff. i’ve got a lot of other stuff on my mind but i’d like to offer the following opinions myself right now. #1 – eminem is a moron. what a waste of space that man is. seriously, jesus must be coming back soon when people like that idiot are getting awards. #2 – britney spears is supposedly taking 10 months off. finally! #3 – mtv is worthless. #4 – i saw the hot snakes here last week and they were incredible. go see them if you can. they bring the rock! ok children, all for now.
