Going To The Fitness Center And We're Going To Get Healthy

There is a community fitness center at a local hosptial only 5 minutes from our house. I’m going to check it out tomorrow and hopefully start working out there starting Tuesday. It’s only $30 a month, which is cheaper than pretty much every gym in the area and even the YMCA with a discount. They have an indoor walking track which will be great when it is too hot outside (see – all summer) or raining. I was devastated on Friday when they told me I had to have a 2nd blood test. But I’m feeling better today. I’ve been doing sit-ups the last 2 days and I walked for 30 minutes last night. I will get this in check!

The Predators are still in the running for the playoffs. They actually moved into the 8th spot. If they can keep winning these last few games the might actually make it and that would be exciting!

I’d write more, but it’s time to watch Oprah’s Big Give! :)

My Blood Sugar Hates Me

I got a call from my new doctor’s office today. I guess my blood sugar was high again. High enough that they want me to come back next week to take another test to “see if you have Diabetes.” Great. I guess I’m an idiot and I didn’t get scared enough the last time to really make a full lifestyle change. I had one bad test and then two good ones and now it was high again. Crap city.

So, I’m back on a strict low carb / low sugar diet. And I have to start walking every day and exercising as much as possible. I might not dodge the bullet this time. It might be too late for me. But I have to change. I am really sick of going through this. It would be so easy to do a quick fix surgery or some other option. It’s such hard work to undo what I have done to myself.

Well, enough of my sob story. I did ok today eating right. So, one day down and hopefully many more to go.

New Work Computer

Saturday Nights Alright For Hockey

Last night I shared dinner and 2 for 1 beers with my buddy and soon to be co-worker, Brad. We went to a sports bar in Cool Springs called Jonathan’s Grille. I had a nice chicken cobb salad and Amstel Light (on tap). It was good and we had some good conversation.

Ronee and I drove around with Ron (my father-in-law) today. We were driving around Old Hickory Lake and Hendersonville. We grabbed a little lunch at White Castle. Then we picked up a belt for the vacuum and some t-shirts. I’m pretty sure Ron fixed it because I heard him vacuuming upstairs.

While we were out I DVR’d the Predators Vs Blackhawks game which I just started watching. The Preds are in 9th place (4 points out). So they really need to win today. Let’s go Preds!

Tomorrow we’re going to have a full house for Easter dinner. Should be fun! I’m going to try to be thankful and reflective about Jesus tomorrow. That is, after all, what the holiday is all about…right?

1,000 Posts!

I can’t believe it either, but this is my 1,000th blog post!

I started keeping a journal online at the end of 1999 (you can see in the archives) and have been more or less consistently blogging ever since. I have taken down the blog and put it back up again several times. But I really enjoy having a record of where I have been and what I have done. So, for better or worse, I’m giving it my best to be in this for the long haul.

I’ve been watching the Predators Vs Red Wings hockey game on TV. It’s on of the best games I’ve seen in a long time. They are just hammering on each other. Big hits everywhere and it’s been neck and neck. Currently the Wings are winning 4-3 in the 3rd period with about 8 minutes to go. I’m going to keep blogging through to the end of the game.

Spring is definitely my favorite time of year in Nashville. The blooming trees are just beautiful here. Once everything starts turning green it just gets more gorgeous with each passing day. The only downside is it’s also the start of allergy season. I know some people have already been having allergy issues. I can tell that soon I will be taking my usual daily dose of non-drowsy Alavert.

Crap, Detroit just scored. 5-3, Detroit lead with about 3 minutes left.

I found out today that B Rad is going to be my newest co-worker starting next week. Congrats to you, bro!

Dammit, the Preds are going to lose. They just pulled the goalie, but it isn’t going to matter. Ah yes, the old empty net goal. 6-3 Red Wings. I think I hear the fat lady singing…

My computer at work took a dive last week again and we had to have the hard drive and power supply replaced. But now I think I heard I’m getting a new computer. So glad I spent all that time re-installing software. Well, I can’t complain.

I have been sleeping really great lately. I stopped drinking coffee and have been trying (and been pretty successful) to avoid soda or anything else caffeinated. I haven’t really done anything else different, so that must be it. For the first time in as long as I can remember I’ve been sleeping through the night, dreaming and waking up before the alarm clock. It’s amazing. I had pretty bad withdrawals including leg cramps and headaches all last week, but I think the worst is over.

My father-in-law just arrived in town yesterday. So we’re going to have a full house for Easter weekend. That will be nice. I see some good food in my future. Speaking of good food, my mother-in-law Susan has been spoiling me with corned beef and cabbage with red skinned potatoes for St. Patrick’s Day and yesterday she made Irish soda bread that is just delicious. And I might have had some Guinness and Jameson whiskey too. I better keep doing crunches!!!

All in all, this has been a great week. I have so much to be thankful for. Thank you for stopping by and for reading this, my one-thousandth post!

Delays. Delays. Delays.

It’s amazing how little people take into consideration what other people have going on with their lives while making demands, isn’t it? Sorry, that’s about as elaborate as I can get about it.

I’m working late because my father-in-law’s flight was delayed about 4+ hours. That’s not very expressy, Expressjet. More like Suckjet. I’m sure it’s in no small part due to the bad weather, wind, etc. He’s going to be real tired when he gets here.

It’s looking pretty grim for my favorite hockey team, The Nashville Predators. They are now 4 points behind Vancouver (in the 8th playoff spot). They really needed to win that last game. We’ll see how it all shakes out, I guess.

I really wish I had more time to read books. I wish had more time for a lot of things actually.

I feel like I could do a lot better with the blog here. Sorry. Ha ha. Makes some of you long for the days when I was really pissed off doesn’t it?

Happy Saint Patrick's Day
