Just About As Useless As A Pecker On The Pope

The title of today’s post is from the movie Planet Terror, which I started watching last night and finished today. I really enjoyed it. It was over-the-top gross in parts with heads exploding, etc. But it was so crazy that it just was funny. I like zombie movies. It was fun. It was a good nearly 2 hours of escapism. A nice diversion from the stress of the week.

Today I got up early because my wife had class all day and after she got up I couldn’t fall back asleep. I had some breakfast (egg white breakfast burrito) and then after finishing the movie I mowed the lawn. Damn, it was hot out.

Then I started the film Paris Je T’aime, and cooled off a little. Then I headed to the gym and put in an hour on the elliptical. Came home and made a salad with cranberries, tuna, bananas and raspberry vinagrette. I know it sounds diabolical, but it was delicious.

Took a shower and watched more of Paris Je T’aime. Then I headed out to meet Ronee and the Hickman’s for a BBQ/Party. Good food and times were had by all. That Russ really knows how to cook a mean burger with pepper jack cheese! They recently took in a homeless dog named Utah. It was seriously one of the sweetest dogs ever. And I am not an animal person. We were just about one fenced in yard away from taking that rascal home. Ha.

Now I am just chillin’ on the porch and watching the sunset. Nice.

Brand New Helmet And Nowhere To Go

kbc_helmet

I got my new KBC full face helmet via UPS today from MotorCycleSuperstore.com. I got a tip from Scooter Diva on a 48 hour sale and scored a $170 helmet for about $39.99. Not too bad. The helmet is not really my style, that’s for sure (eek, is that a tribal dragon?!). But it exceeds DOT and Snell standards for safety. Most importantly, however, it fits perfect and is very comfortable. I chose this helmet not only because of the price but because it has 12 vents. I am hot pretty much all the time without having my head closed in by a helmet. So I need all the ventilation I can get! I am very happy with the purchase. The visor seems to open easily. I wish I could give it a test run but it’s going to be 5 days, evidently, before the parts for my scooter even arrive at my dealer. Not too stoked on that. What happened to the overnight shipping for service problems, Fly Scooters?

I listened to some of my favorite old school punk records from my high school days today. GBH, The Vandals first EP, The Exploited “Horror Epics”, Adolescents self-titled, T.S.O.L. “Dance With Me”, Suicidal Tendencies self-titled, Battalion Of Saints, Dag Nasty “Can I Say”, Descendents “All”, etc. Boy did it take me back.

I also cleaned the heck out of my office today. I moved some bins of CD’s to the warehouse, vacuumed every corner, organized and whatnot. After the mouse incident from Tuesday I thought I’d make sure nobody else was hiding out in here. And I’ve been feeling a bit stressed lately and needed to do some housekeeping for sure.

I finally finished the movie “Death Proof” last night and also watched a movie from 2006 called “Delirious” where Steve Buscemi plays a paparazzi. Both of those movies were just ok. Not too bad. I always love seeing Buscemi being pissed off. That’s hilarious. I liked the car chase, crash scenes from “Death Proof” as well as the final ass-kicking. But the rest of it was pretty flat.

That’s about it. I’m hoping to find some time to just sleep in and relax this weekend. It’s been kind of hectic for me. How about you?

This Is A Birthday Pony

If you have to carry a gun
To keep your fragile seat at number one
This is a bullet you can’t outrun
Your way of thinking

– Fugazi

I’ve spent the last hour of the day or so listening to Fugazi. I haven’t really listened to them in a while and “In On The Kill Taker” and “Live at Irving Plaza, NYC 1995″ are really hitting me in the right spot at this moment. A little bit of angst. A little bit of energy. A little bit of what I need. Sure, you bet.

Been taking a lot of meetings lately. Always a weird deal trying to woo “new clients” or convince them to work with you. Kind of like dating without the making out. I don’t like it much. But I understand this is how “things are done” and that you “have to do what you have to do.” Still doesn’t mean I like it. Don’t get me wrong, the managers and marketing people are perfectly nice and thoughtful. We’ve had some good “conversations.” It’s interesting to get out of my little box with a computer and actually talk to human beings. I guess I’ve just never been much of a salesman. I’ll organize the hell out of your mess. But I’m not much for convincing you that I’m the guy to be your house keeper. You get it, right?

My scooter is still in the shop. Didn’t hear anything today. That’s not a good sign.

Well, I’m trying my earnest best to say something every day. There seems to be a number of you who are interested enough to stop by and see what I’m up to. I don’t know why. But I appreciate that you care. So, thanks.

I’m going to go home and disconnect my head from my shoulders.

John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt! His Name Is My Name Too!

I started singing a song from my childhood yesterday evening, randomly. I have not even thought about this song in maybe 20 years. Isn’t the brain a strange thing? I wonder why I thought of that. Anyway, turns out it’s the song that never ends. I forgot about that part. Appropriate, I think.

I went to pick up my scooter from the shop this morning after warranty service was done. It was idling up and down on it’s own, so they replaced the carburetor. Except now it’s having another problem and died on a test run down the street. Might have to replace the entire engine. So, that sucks. My dealer (who is great) was kind enough to loan me a scooter for today so I could get to work and back. Supposed to be nice weather this weekend too. I was hoping to go on a ride. Starting to look like that’s not going to happen. Not too stoked on that.

I made some Manischewitz vegetable soup with fresh ground turkey meat in it last night. It had to cook for 2 hours so I won’t be able to enjoy it until this evening. Nothing like a hearty soup to make things feel a little better. Am I right?

I’m pretty frustrated with a number of things right now that I can’t really talk about. I’d really like to close some chapters of my life and move on to bigger and brighter things. Here’s hoping…

Liar! Liar! Pants On Fire!

Yeah, so what else is new? I put the blog up. I take it down. All in a days work when you are me. I thought I had nothing more to say. Maybe I do. Maybe I don’t.

I’m exhausted.

Maybe I’m coming down with something. I don’t know. Maybe I over-extended my 40-year-old body with that hour on the elliptical I completed yesterday. Could be.

My scooter has been in the shop since Saturday getting scheduled maintenance (oil change, carb and valve service, etc.) It’s been raining anyway, so I guess it doesn’t matter. Hopefully it’s going to be ready tomorrow. It’s supposed to be. I miss riding.

Had a great time with friends Mike and Tiffany in Franklin yesterday cooking out for Memorial Day. I ate way too much. So much that my stomach hurt. That was a mistake. I need to learn to slow down. It was fun, nevertheless.

My wife is studying like a crazy person. She is really putting her heart into her masters program. I’m really proud of her. I don’t know how she does it. Lord knows, I never could.

This morning there was a funny smell in my office. Turns out a pair of mice got trapped in the bottom of my garbage can under my desk. In an act of desperation the one mouse ATE the other mouse. I found one live mouse and one recently devoured mouse carcass (skeleton guts and ears – YUCK!). Pretty much cast a funk over my whole day. I still feel sick to my stomach.

So, how was your day?

Hear Me Lord by Youthful Praise

Here’s the other video we shot up in Connecticut. They can really belt it out! Check out the notes that the soloist hits right around 6 minutes in. Unreal!

Powerful God by Youthful Praise

A couple of weeks I go I traveled up to New York and then Connecticut to shoot a music video for a gospel choir with my boss Mike and co-worker Marc. We all 3 did the camera work and Mike did all the editing. This is the first cut and I think it’s really got a great inspiring song and performance. I really just keep watching it. It makes me feel happy inside. I hope you like it too. Also, we laugh because they keep repeating “power” over and over. It’s like my own personal theme song. Except not, because it’s about the power of God – not me. Anyway, enjoy!

Also here is a bonus video from the same shoot for “Hear Me Lord”
